Boys vs Girls....equal field of play??
By: Scott R.
Although this is a softball situation it will effect all divisions of LL eventually, plus I feel I'll get better feed-back at this site...... Big League Softball is the 16-18 year old division of LL softball where 99% of these fast pitch teams are made up of all-girl teams. The Western Regional playoffs are in progress at Palmdale, CA where the winner will represent the West at the World Series in Kalamazoo, MI. During the southern division playoffs to get to the regionals a N.M. team showed up with 5 boys on it and beat Arizona 2 out of 3 to advance. This created quite a stir at the tournament since the boys accounted for 9 of the 10 winning runs scored. Their manager was quoted at the tournament, that its not "girls vs girls" and if he could he would of gotten more boys to make it even more unfair he would have. At the local regionals my daughters team beat them handily 12-2 where our pitching made a big difference but you could tell the physical make-up of 18 year old boys (young men) was evident.....the catcher threw to second from his knees, the outfielders covered all of the ground and could throw easily to bases with out any relays. If their pitching was not so weak they would be a dominating force that would be very difficult to beat. They have since knocked out a Wash. team by a huge margin with the boys dominating with their power and speed. I can see this escalating next year by more teams. Any comments on this matter would be appreciated. I personally believe in equal rights but there is a line-of-difference when it comes to sports and the genders against each other. Thanks...... By the way, baseball still rules! "BBR" Scott R.
