Youth pitching

Smitty, I think that rest is as important as work. When my kid does long toss we do about 10-15 of those then if he feels up to it no more than 20 4-seam fastballs. The type of pitch or throw a kid does will matter just as much. Pitching is a beautiful art, and there's more to it than the battery. I teach my pitchers as much about pick-off moves, holdin runners, balks, communications, and most important... If I pull you it's because you'll need your arm alot longer than I will. Grips are not too big on my list at that age. It's hard enough to throw a fastball for a strike at that age. I see a lot of kids with bad balance and foot work on the mounds due to improper mound care, fix the mounds and then watch the wonders . good luck!
