Hints & Tips

Thanks for your query Jeff. As you would know coaching children of under 10 can be very difficult at times, The Keep It Simple Principle applies best here. Give your players one or two things, but have them do them very well.

I would teach under 8's and under 10's a simple 5 out offence. Emphasising court balance and spacing. Tell your players they are not allowed in another area of the court that a teammate is in. Playing 5 out allows plays to play all positions. You may try to teach rotation, but if you teach the principle of not allowing another person in an are you very often get replacement.

The other thing I would teach playes is to basket cut off the ball regularly, cutting and replacing themselves and to pass and cut (give & go). At this level you probably don't want to over complicate the game, children have enough to learn skill wise. If your children are attentive and have played several years, they may be ready to learn some form of replacement from the weakside. I hope these tips help! If you have any more questions just ask!
